War of the Worlds and Alien Invaders

I hope Tom Cruise doesn’t wreck War of the Worlds. I read the book in high school and it was a great story, the ending of how they all die from Earth’s diseases was a bit lame though. Another cool invasion book/movie is “The Day of the Triffids“, V and The Tripods were good television series at the time too.

    I don’t think Tom Cruise will be the problem with this movie. His character appears to be, though. In the book, there was no hero … just a guy in the same boat as everybody else, doing both good and evil just to prolong his life. This movie, however, seems to have the hero that the book didn’t have. And the invasion takes a different form.

    Really, this movie seems to be similar to the book only in that it has the same name. A rip off for people who may actually have enjoyed the bleak, dark aspect of the book’s moral.
