Tim Tam ads
April 26th, 2005This is another case of “small world” Last week, Tin, Pauline, Haline and I were having lunch in Newtown, we picked up some postcards of the Tim Tam ads that are all over town at the moment featuring naked models covered strategically with swirls of chocolate and milk.
Well…
I messaged an old mate on my MSN list today and it turns out he works for Electric Art* . They are the ones who did the re touching and images for the Tim Tam ads, among other amazing work.
me: How was the swirling chocolate done?
Piotr: was going to be 3d but instead it’s an edit of about 700 shots of silk.me: shit!
Piotr: Shot by Montalbetti and Campbell.. they’re so good. They shot over 80GB of stuff.me: so how did you get the splattering effect of the milk then?
Piotr: milk was going to be 3d too.. but it’s milk from a bucket. 3d was a bit too technically challenging…. and a bit too perfect.me: where the models naked? (haha I had to ask)
Piotr: yep… Denis chose dancers over regular models…nice. I think the blond girl was the producer. I heard she came into the office but no one recognised her.me: i can imaging working with a super hi res image of a naked dancer there.
Piotr: someone had to do it, that’s the kind of sacrifice we’re prepared to make
Nice to know, thanks Piotr

Please explain to me how I can tell my 8 year old daughter that this is advertising for biscuits. This type of advertising belongs inside pornography magazines and not on the sides of buses and on bus shelters where school age children will see it. It is not acceptable for our children to be subjected to this type of image.

I agree, children cannot see the technical merit in something like this. This is another case of where advertisers are blatantly using sex to sell a product that does not need it. My friends who I was discussing this with all agreed that the imagery is very distastful.
