Architecture at Annandale

Friday, May 6th, 2005

Saw Architecture in Helsinki at the Annandale Hotel tonight. It was standing room only, there are no seats at the Annandale. AiH was kind of disappointing, they are amazing musicians, swapping instruments mid song, but this turned out to be not so cool after the 5th time. Nine members of a band on a small stage made all the sounds muddled. Some of the songs they played came out really well, not all though. Hit and miss performance.

Nelson Mandela Bay Statue of Freedom

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

The Nelson Mandela Bay Statue of Freedom Competition has been shortlisted. Check out the ‘Competition Outcomes’ to view the top 3 entries. I think “An icon of South African Identity” should win, its so clever and simple, playing with light and 3D visual space really well. My sentimental favourite is “Umoya we nkululeku” (pictured below) for its playfulness with the figures.

Photoshoot

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

Helped out Lang and Haline today with a photoshoot for Lang’s new shirt design range. They had a make-up artist, hair stylist and two models, Aleks and Sarah from the Finished People movie. It was lots of fun, got lots of weird stares cos we were shooting some of it on the street with Aleks wearing a very Moulin Roug style costume. The rest of the shoot was at the back of the Refill Space.
