Why do we fall, Bruce?

June 21st, 2005

What I liked about Batman Begins was that it didn’t have a myriad of big name stars vying for your attention. A perfect example of this is Gary Oldman playing policeman Jim Gordan, I didn’t realise it was him until the credits came up. Sure there were lots of stars but they played their own parts without trying to steal the whole scene, Michael Caine or Liam Neeson could probably carry a movie on their own.

The other thing it didn’t have which was suitable, was a big flashing intro title sequence, instead a swarm of bats, a key part of the story, leads you into the movie. Initially I had my doubts about this film, not wanting to see it on the big screen, I was turned off by the George Clooney version, it was colourful, comical and over the top, better suited to the old TV series. I like Batman Begins, one of the better comic to movie adaptions that actually made me feel something for the character, that hasn’t happened since Casper, haha.

To use their symbolism of falling, I think with the past Batman movies DC stumbled and fell heavily, with Batman Begins, they’ve picked themselves up and delivered something with much needed substance, it was engaging and true to the feel of the comics. I loved that one scene where Batman is standing on top of that spire while the camera panes around him showing Gotham in the background.

DC
I’m not too keen on the new DC logo. It would sit nicely on a laundry powder pack in the supermarket.

who the hell cast katie holmes in that movie? what a mistake. she looks like she is about to cry every time she is on screen, and all that moral waffle makes me want to puke!

go bale, he is a star :)
