KLEFT font
I decided to make the KLEFT issue 00 logo into a font set. Well its only the Caps set for now. I will give it away free to those who purchase the first issue. My first font, it was tedious and took about three days to get it to what you see. No fully hapy with it just yet, the G, H, U, V, X and Y need a bit more fiddling to get them to match the rest of the letters. A true story about how I came about the bubbly look of this font, I had a dream of this exact bubbly shape of the KLEFT, but only, it was in outline and had an inner drop shadow. I quickly sketched it out and drew it up in illustrator the follwoing day. I found it looked better with a fill rather than in outline, so there it is, and yes, I know it kinda resembles some of Michael Places‘ chunky fonts. I did a search on My Fonts and found Deep Fried ( :

KLEFT
Keep Left Magazine has been the only constant in my life for the past 4 years, always there, often neglected but never forgotten, it has been a labour of love and determination. It has never been about the money or the fame, it has always been about finding the things you liked, telling the world about it and hoping they will like it too.

4 years ago, after coming back from Hong Kong with my work collegues; we had gone over for the first Fresh Design conference. I was on the train home with Luca, being young and brash we talked about starting a magazine with content that we personally dig, stuff that is not mainstream. With a bundle of energy and inspiration we quickly decided there and then to do it. We needed a name, so while Luca was driving me home, we brainstormed for a name. To cut a boring anecdote short, I spotted a Keep Left sign while throwing a bunch of other road sign names in the air. Keeping left of the middle, coming from left field all had good meanings for us, it was something that is unique and unexpected. Ironic how there’s Keep Left signs on nearly every road/street.

So after many false starts, the birth of Keep Left Studio and Refill Magazine, Keep Left Magazine was finally sent to the printer this week. The website is almost done, so more info soon when the mag is back from the printers.

Buddha in Suburbia
I wouldn’t call this an illustration, but its a traced, composited vector image for the cover of an exhibition catalogue I recently designed. The exhibition is called Buddha in Suburbia - Greater Western Sydney. The exhibition is currently showing at the Liverpool Regional Museum till late October. For people who aren’t familiar with western Sydney, specifically the Fairfield/Cabramatta area, it seems that on every street there is a Buddhist temple for the various cultural backgrounds that make up the F/C community. My family is Buddhist and I wear a smiling Buddha pendant around my neck, but maybe there is one too many? The best part of the image is the Holden Kingswood ( :
