Soap
Contracting with the guys at Soap. There are perks like the weekly BBQ’s and advance movie screenings. My initiation to the movie thing was “okay”, we saw the new Johnny Knoxville movie “The Ringer” which was just bearable to watch at times, you didn’t know wether to laugh or be politically correct by not laughing at the mentally challenged actors…

Anyways, there’s some very talented people here, some of whom have Flickr accounts, Ash, Christian, Ron and Mike. This is hilarious.

The Martec triplets were always bored, having been stuck to a wooden wall since they were very young, they spend their days making faces at people.

My House on Google Maps

Google Map
I’m a bit late on the Google Maps wagon, not realising that you could find places in Australia or even my own house! So cool. The satellite mapping was done about 2 to 3 years ago because the T-WAY bus route ( you can see a section of it outside the school ) from Liverpool to Parramatta is still dirt.

Painting the Roses

The Rose
Haline, Tina and I were 14 metres up in the air for most of weekend painting a big ass rose onto an old Pizza Hut sign post. The old building below is now a shop selling giftwares and the owner wants to have a flower shop in there too. He hired a massive cherry picker with an arm extension of maybe 16 metres. I’m not sure if you need a license to drive one of these things but it was pretty easy to get a handle of. It was fun, like driving a big remote control car with an articulated arm that you can pretty much control and position yourself anywhere 15 metre up.

It was pretty scary at one point too, with the wind picking up slightly from a gentle breeze and the fully extended arm swaying back and forth. Looking down and seeing the arm fully extended and leaning about 45 degrees I wondered how it was holding us up. It was relatively safe though, we were harnessed in and only went up when it was calm.

We finished both sides around midnight on Sunday and the result is amazing, not many motorists will miss this iconic rose as they drive past in either directions of the Hume Highway. Haline designed the image and it suited beautifully with the old signpost shape, complete with leaf petals and stem.

Weirdest part of the weekend was seeing a big cockroach walk across the top of the sign with the lights of Liverpool in the background. Scariest was when the wind picked up, my legs felt like jello. nicest was eating Hungry Jacks suspend 12 metres in the air under the stars.

Evan Hecox at Monster Children

Evan Hecox painting
One of the reason why I like Carhartt is because of Evan Hecox’s illustrations/paintings for their advertisements many years back. Not sure if he still does stuff for them though. There’s something about his loose looking linework that I really like. The above image from the exhibition is a painting, meticulously painted to look like a pen drawing, even the note paper is painted. He is having a solo showing of his work at the Monster Children Gallery till April 1, which coincidently is above the Carhartt store on Oxford street…

Miniature model sets

Circular Quay Mini
After seeing the really cool photos on this site which looks like they were taken of miniature model sets I didn’t give it much thought besides that it must’ve been some filter or camera trick. Today I accidently came across this site showing how it was done. So I had to try it for myself, really cool effect, my attempt isn’t too great though, angle needs to be higher I think.
