Creative Sydney
May 29th, 2009
We’ve been going to see the Creative Sydney Events and light projections. In particular the Three Minute Sydney and Epic Fail talks. The Epic Fail talks were really good, entertaining, informative and inspiring. It reminded me of two epic fails in my life that pushed me forward as a person.
One was in high school, I had to give an announcement to the school assembly about some sporting event I had helped organise, I got up, looked at the crowd and stuttered my first word like a bad rapper, the whole assembly burst out laughing, I was shocked but kept going and made it to the end, walked back down to my class line and looked at the ground until it was all over. This made me fearless when making future public speaking duties.
The second was not passing the entry creative examination at Enmore Design Centre to get into the Graphic Design course, this was straight after my HSC and it was a big let down as I really wanted to do this course. It got me down a bit, but it made my resolve to do graphic design more clearer. This failure was a blessing because I managed to get into another course, Design Fundamentals, a one year course that I really enjoyed and gained immensly from, we did everything that year from stage, fashion, product, landscape, interior, lighting and graphic design. It was intense. I got straight into Graphic the follwing year without having to sit that entry exam.
I’m sure I’ve failed many more times, but those two came to mind.
